Our Design Process

Point Cloud Design follows a practical, step-by-step process to move projects from rough idea, physical part, or scan data into CAD models, prototypes, and fabrication-ready designs.

Initial Consultation

Our journey begins by thoroughly reviewing your project goals, any existing parts, rough sketches, measurements, or reference photos. This crucial step helps us define the scope, understand fitment requirements, discuss materials, establish a budget, and determine the intended use of your design.

Measurement and 3D Scanning

If your project involves an existing part, a specific mounting location, or a custom-fit area, we accurately capture the necessary geometry. This is achieved through advanced 3D scanning, precise manual measurement, or a combination of both, ensuring accurate foundational data for your design.

CAD Design and Modeling

The concept takes shape as it is developed into a clean, detailed 3D CAD model. This stage is dedicated to optimizing function, ensuring precise fit, enhancing manufacturability, and preparing the design for subsequent prototyping or quotation stages.

Prototype and Fit Check

When necessary, a physical prototype is produced, typically using 3D printing. This critical step allows us to verify the fit, form, and function of the design in the real world before proceeding to final fabrication.

Design Refinement

Following review or test fitting, the design is adjusted as needed. This iterative process may involve improvements to strength, clearances, mounting mechanisms, overall appearance, or manufacturability, ensuring the final product meets all requirements.

Final Files and Fabrication Support

Once the design is approved, we provide final CAD files, 2D drawings, and fabrication-ready documentation. When needed, we can also help source manufactured parts through trusted machining, sheet metal, 3D printing, and fabrication vendors, giving customers a smoother path from design to finished part.

Our unique approach: real-world solutions

What makes our process different is the powerful combination of 3D scanning, advanced CAD design, rapid prototyping, and extensive manufacturing experience. We don't just create models that look good on screen; we design around real parts, real mounting points, real clearances, and critical fabrication needs. This integrated approach ensures practical, reliable, and manufacturing-ready designs with fewer surprises.
